Rex Baxter, a 30-year-old club professional from Beechwood Country Club in Cleveland, Ohio, knocked a 60-yard wedge shot stiff for a tap-in on the final hole to win by one shot over Ernie George and Bob Duden. Finishing three strokes behind Baxter at 288 were Dick Smith, who would become PGA of America president from 1991-1992, and Mickey Powell, PGA president from 1985 -1986.
