After an opening 5-under-par 67 on the tougher No. 2 course, and a second round 7-under-par 65 on the No. 1 course, 59-year-old Sam Snead cruised to a 5-stroke victory. Among the records set were the all-time low 18-hole score, 63, by Eddie Famula, who then shot 81 the second day to just make the 36-hole cut, and Snead's record 36-hole score of 132.
