Playing during an arctic cold front that sent temperatures to an all-time low for North Carolina, 35-year-old Don Massengale beat the elements to win the fifth PGA Club Professional Championship. On the final day, Massengale fired a back nine 33 for a two-stroke victory over Bob Bruno and four strokes over defending champion Sam Snead.
