In 100-degree heat, Jack Nicklaus won the 45 th PGA Championship. At 23 years of age, Nicklaus joined Ben Hogan, Byron Nelson and Gene Sarazen as the only men in golfing history to win the PGA, the U.S. Open, and the Masters. To win the PGA Championship, Nicklaus overcame Bruce Crampton, who had a three-stroke lead going into the final round. However, Crampton faded in the last few holes as Nicklaus posted a 68 for a 279 total to win his first of five PGA Championships.
