Lee Trevino, brandishing an old putter he found in the attic of his rented home, slogged his way to victory in a week of steady rain. During the third round, Trevino moved in front with a 68 to establish a one-stroke lead over Jack Nicklaus. In the final round, Nicklaus fired a flawless 69, but couldn't overtake Trevino who matched Nicklaus' performance for a one-stroke victory.
