Residing less than a half-hour from Atlanta Athletic Club, Larry Nelson leaped into the lead with his second straight 66 in the third round and cruised on to a four-stroke triumph over Fuzzy Zoeller. The 33-year-old one-time aircraft plant draftsman and Vietnam veteran began the final round with a four-stroke lead and was never challenged with his closing 1-over-par 71.
