The PGA of America - Golf Professional Hall of Fame

The PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame originated in 1940 at the suggestion of famed sportswriter Grantland Rice. Most of the original inductees were later enshrined at the PGA World Golf Hall of Fame in Pinehurst, N.C.

In 1993, The PGA of America ceased PGA World Golf Hall of Fame operations in Pinehurst and subsequently relocated to the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Fla. While all of the Pinehurst-enshrined members were transferred to the new World Golf Hall of Fame, there were some members of the PGA Hall of Fame who were not recognized at the new facility at the World Golf Village.

In 2003, The PGA opened the PGA Historical Center at PGA Village in Port St. Lucie, Fla., paving the way for the first home for the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame. It is the highest honor that The PGA of America can bestow upon its membership. The inaugural ceremony was conducted on Sept. 8, 2005, at the PGA Historical Center.

With the establishment of this Hall of Fame, the Association recognizes all PGA members who have made significant and lasting contributions to the building of The PGA of America and the game of golf.

The members of the 2006 class of the PGA Golf Professional Hall of Fame, inducted Dec. 8., in Port St. Lucie, Fla., are: (From left to right) PGA Honorary President Roger Warren, Bill Eschenbrenner, Dow Finsterwald, William Heald, Barbara Nicklaus (accepting for husband Jack Nicklaus), Manuel de la Torre and Gary Wiren.
