With Callaway Golf becoming a title sponsor, the PGA Senior Club Professional Championship expanded its field from 144 to 264 contestants, and was conducted on both the North and South Courses at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Fla. Mike San Filippo, who splits his residences between Concord, Mass., and his winter home in Hobe Sound, Fla., birdied the third hole in a sudden death playoff to defeat Bob Ralston of Little Rock, Ark., and win the Championship. San Filippo posted a 4-under-par 68 during the final round for an 8-under-par 280, tying third-round leader Ralston after 72 holes. Ralston, whose caddie was his son-in-law, and PGA Tour regular, Glen Day, finished with a bogey on the 18th hole for a 72 and fell into the playoff with San Filippo. San Filippo earned a first-place check of $16,000. With the Championship conducted for the first time on two courses, the 264-member field averaged 74.9 strokes on teh South Course and 74.6 on the North. All contestants finishing at 2-over-par 290 earned a berth in the 2003 Senior PGA Championship.
