The PGA of America - Scholarships

The PGA Journalism Scholarship program was established in 1992 to promote the game of golf and journalism as a career by providing financial aid to deserving students in print and broadcast journalism or general communications at one of five universities. In 1998, the Larry O’Brien/PGA of America Journalism Scholarship was established at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana. The scholarship program honors the late O’Brien, a longtime member of the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) and a former PGA Advisory Committee member, and recognizes students who excel in communications for the promotion of golf.

The PGA of America annually provides $24,000 for the PGA Journalism Scholarship program, which is distributed in sums of $4,000 each to six college journalists. Since 1992 a total of $250,000 has been awarded. The program is funded by the PGA Foundation and administered by the GWAA Scholarship Committee.
