Arnold Palmer made his debut in the PGA Seniors' Championship at the age of 51, and won with a birdie on the first hole of a playoff. Observers predicted he'd do the same for the new Senior PGA Tour as he did for all of golf in the late 1950s and '60s. His victory at Turnberry Isle CC proved to be nearly as exciting as he was any in the past. Palmer birdied the first extra hole from seven feet to edge first-round leader Paul Harney after they tied at 1-over-par 289. "It's the PGA Championship I never won," said Palmer.
