Sam Snead demonstrated his new "Squat-shot" putting style,claiming he could "see the line of the putts better by facing the hole." (The between-the-legs "croquet" putting method was outlawed by the USGA within a year.) Snead posted a 9-under-par 279,winning the overall title by nine shots over Bob Hamilton and 10 shots over defending Champion Freddie Haas, who finished third.
