Inclement weather throughout the weekend couldn't prevent Sam Snead from capturing a record fourth PGA Seniors' Championship. However, it did cost the tournament its defending Champion, Tommy Bolt, who battled the flu. When the second round was delayed by rain, Bolt elected to withdraw. Snead won with a final round of 4-over-par 76 for a 2-over-par 290 total, two ahead of former Champion Freddie Haas. It was the first winning score over par since Earnie Newnham's 2-over-par 146 for two rounds in 1952 at the old PGA National in Dunedin.
